The Drake Lock & Swivel: A New Standard in Catheter Stabilization

The Drake Lock & Swivel represents a breakthrough in catheter securement technology. Unlike traditional stabilization methods that rely on strong adhesives, this patented device provides secure catheter stabilization while allowing natural movement through its innovative swivel mechanism. Designed to minimize skin irritation and reduce the risk of accidental dislodgement, the Drake Lock & Swivel offers a more comfortable and reliable solution for long-term catheter users. By prioritizing mobility and patient comfort, the device supports both clinical effectiveness and improved daily living for individuals who rely on catheterization.

Patented Retainer

The Drake Lock & Swivel Retainer is a patented catheter stabilization device designed to provide secure support while allowing natural movement for long-term catheter users in daily life. Its innovative swivel design helps reduce tension, discomfort, and the risk of catheter dislodgement, giving patients greater comfort and mobility in their daily lives.

Swiveling Retainer

t features an innovative swiveling retainer that moves naturally with the patient, allowing the catheter to rotate freely without kinking, twisting, or tugging during normal daily movement. This design reduces strain on the catheter and surrounding skin while maintaining secure stabilization, helping improve mobility, comfort, and confidence during everyday activities.

When my husband, a 100% disabled veteran, had his first back surgery in July 2023, he was fitted with an indwelling catheter. In the hospital, they used the stick on Statlock devices. It wasn't till we got home, a month later, that I discovered those devices had basically been eating away at his skin, and trying to find another place to stick them was becoming increasingly difficult.

At the time, I was searching for all the info I could find on catheters and joined a couple of Facebook groups. In that group, I met Michelle Drake and found out about her leg strap. So I ordered one. It was a GAME CHANGER!! We could finally get my husband's leg sores to heal. The strap securement device swivels like the Statlock device, which is important to keep the catheter from kinking. The strap itself is soft, yet has good grippiness to it, keeping it securely in place. And the velcro!! Super strong and long lasting. We even use it in the pool! And lastly, you can switch legs easily, something you cannot do with the stick on devices.

I've since recommended this strap to everyone on the support sites I'm on as well as telling Drs and nurses about it. I'm so grateful for Michelle and hope this strap becomes the norm everywhere!

After having a catheter for 2 years and learning I would have it for the rest of my life I began looking for more life-living appropriate supplies.

There are some great options out there but for long term use they all seemed to have issues.

A fellow catheter user suggested the Drake Lock and Swivel and WOW!

I can't say enough about this item. It is made out of high quality and durable supplies, fully adjustable with wide elastic and strong velcro. Due to the anti slip grip on the inner side there is no reason to attach the strap snuggly so it is very comfortable.

I switch my catheter from a leg bag and bed bag and the swivel feature makes this a comfortable exchange since it allows the bag/tubing to rest where it is needed and most comfortable.

Previous items I have used needed to be replaced frequently. On occasion I have been able to "stretch" previous straps to last up to one month but I would say that on average they were only in good shape for about 2 weeks. I've had the same Drake straps (2) for 6 months and with regular washing they are both in good condition.

I have also been impressed with Michelle, the creator of this device. She saw a need and invented a fix! I have been able to communicate directly with her and when there was a delay in my delivery since she was out of town she compensated me with an additional strap!

I come from a 25+ year nursing career and when I began working there was no stabilizing devices that I was aware of....we used tape to create something to try to help with this issue. I never really considered how ineffective those were until I required a catheter myself. Having this device available for those in acute care situations would be such a beneficial asset to their general comfort level.

Thank you for the opportunity to share my story and for helping to benefit the catheter community.

Something that's made a huge difference to me is now wearing a Drake Lock and Swivel leg band. I remember that it was mentioned a while back and so I looked it up recently and sent away for it. No more tape on the deteriorating skin on my thigh to keep the catheter where I want it. And it means that I can put the catheter high on my thigh thus giving me maximum play in the tubing. This means that my tender lady parts are far less subject to being irritated by the catheter tubing and that's a major positive. And no more twisting of the tubing thus cutting off the free flowing of the urine.

I wish I'd known about this devise right from the start. I should add that the website owner was a pleasure to deal with.
